Statement.
Viktoria's work revolves around nature, specifically wood and its relation to the humans' inner world. Her artistic process often consists of photographing microscopic images of the cellular structure of wood specimens, which later evolve into large installations in which these wood cells are juxtaposed with locally-sourced wood pieces.
Viktoria views these otherworldly images of wood cells as a metaphor for our awareness. There is a close analogy between the microscopic world and our internal selves, in which a microscope acts as an awareness-extending tool that enables us to view and dive more deeply into ourselves. For example, when observing a tree, we only see the first layer of the bark, and based on this observation, we assume its inner structure. However, there is more to this bark than meets the eye underneath this outer layer. In the same way, we as humans need to look inwards to gain a deeper understanding of our nature.
